Back in the 1990s, I worked with Jorge Díaz Ortiz, Puerto Rican cultural organizer, in a youth theater collective called Agitarte. It was my introduction to Freire and to Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed methodology, and a deeply formative experience in my own praxis of linking media and cultural work with intersectional liberatory political organizing. 20 years later, AgitArte has evolved into a kickass organization whose mission is “to create projects and practices of cultural solidarity with workers and marginalized communities in grassroots struggles to protest injustice and propose alternatives that, in turn, generate possibilities for fundamental transformations in our world.”
Now, Agitarte has collaborated with Greg Jobin-Leeds to produce this rich volume that explores the dynamics of today’s social movements through interviews, art, social history, and analysis.
