Scot Nakagawa

ChangeLab Senior Partner

Scot Nakagawa is a Senior Partner in ChangeLab, a social change think-lab working on issues of racial equity in the United States by convening activist leaders to develop shared analysis and conjure ideas and projects we hope will interrupt conservative racial schema and promote a broader understanding of race in the changing global context of the 21st century.

Before co-creating ChangeLab, Scot worked for 36 years in social change and community serving organizations on many issues and in lots of places. Some of the highlights include serving as the founding staff person of the Coalition for Human Dignity, a statewide organization in Oregon created to monitor, expose, and organize opposition to violent white supremacist organizations and the religious right; creating the Fight the Right Project of the National LGBTQ Task Force and eventually serving that organization as Field Director; working at the Highlander Center as a development and marketing strategist and Education Coordinator; and doing a couple of gigs in philanthropy, serving as the Executive Director of the McKenzie River Gathering Foundation in Oregon, and the Social Justice Fund NW in Washington State. At the moment, he serves as a director on the boards of 3 organizations – Political Research Associates, The Center for Social Inclusion, and Aubin Pictures.
